Design, Manufacture and Wind Tunnel Test of a Modular FishBAC Wing with Novel 3D Printed Skins

This paper introduces a new modular Fish Bone Active Camber morphing wing with novel 3D printed skin panels. These panels are using two different Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) formulations: soft, high strain formulation for the deformable membrane of skin, reinforced stiffer stringers and mounting tabs. Additionally, this is first FishBAC device designed to be in its installation actuation. Therefore, all components can removed replaced maintenance purposes without having remove or disassemble other parts. A 1 m span, 0.27 chord 25% was built tested mechanically low-speed wind tunnel. Results show that design capable achieving same large changes airfoil lift coefficient (approximate ?CL?0.55) low drag penalty seen previous work, but much simpler, practical design. shows change pitching moment ?CM?0.1, which potential has as control surface.
